Will I get a mortgage if I’ve been in debt in the past?

If the debt has now been repaid, is unlikely to happen again and was a one-off problem, you may still be able to get a mortgage.

What can I use the money from my remortgage for?

The money from the equity you have in your home can be used for any legal purpose. You may want a new kitchen or bathroom. Essential home improvements. Build a conservatory or buy a new car. However, you may want to use the cash to pay off other, more expensive debts such as store cards, credit cards and other loans. It is entirely up to you how you spend the money. You may want it for a wedding or a holiday of a lifetime.

How much can I borrow?

Our High Street lenders use different methods of calculating how much you can borrow. Some use enhanced income multiples depending on your credit score. Your loan amount may increase if you take a certain mortgage rate.

What is a mortgage?

A mortgage is a loan secured against your property.

Since I have retired I have found it difficult to find a lender who will lend to me. I do not want to sign my house away. I want to leave something for my family to inherit. Do lenders lend to pensioners ?
