I would like to start by saying I am now in a position where I thought I would not be for many years to come, all thanks to Velocity Mortgages.

My position several months back was that I was refused a rental agreement due to my credit rating. This seemed odd so I proceeded to check my credit rating through Experian. On my history was an outstanding CCJ which related to me going into bankruptcy 3 years ago. The CCJ was eventually cleared (as it was a sum included in the bankruptcy) and I hoped to build my credit once more. Whilst on the Experian website I stumbled across a link to Velocity Mortgages. As they stated they helped people with bad credit. I thought it was worth a try even though I had met with several financial advisors prior to this who told me I had to wait at least 5 years after my bankruptcy to have any chance of a mortgage.

I received a call from one of their employees several days later. I explained to him my situation and he was very helpful and understanding. To my surprise he said he thought he could actually get me and my partner a mortgage. After many phone calls and hurdles due to my circumstances, we were told we had a mortgage agreement in principle. I must say at this point I did not believe we were in the position we were in and was waiting for the bad news at any time. Fortunately that time never came. After several more stumbling blocks Velocity Mortgages kept on coming up with the goods and then we received a mortgage offer from a Building Society.

So whilst I am writing this I am also looking forward to picking up the keys to our new house next week. My family and myself now have our own home to enjoy and be proud of.

My wife and I fully supported our family through university and lifestyle start up costs to our detriment. Both of us are in our early 60’s and I am self employed with my wife working in the public service. Our credit history was extremely poor due to us assisting our son with serious debt and fraud problems caused by his (ex) wife. We threw our hat in the ring and assisted him to get a new house and pay off the mess of debt. This was achieved by us borrowing in our name and worked well until the bank crisis when our debt was called in leaving us very exposed and in arrears.

We decided to sell our house to clear off all credit and purchase a smaller home. Our house sold very quickly and we found an ideal property but required a mortgage. After several rejections we found a broker in London who promised us it would be no trouble obtaining a mortgage and foolishly we confirmed both the sale and purchase by concluding the missives which in Scotland are binding. All applications made by the broker were rejected and this put ourselves under pressure by selling and buying without checking if we could get a mortgage.

With 4 weeks to go to being made homeless we found Velocity Mortgages during a web enquiry. They were very helpful and listened to what we had got ourselves into then gave us a lecture on stupidity before advising us that help may be available. Several weeks of telephone calls led to an application which was submitted to a building society followed by a week of frustration and just as we were on the point of giving up hope Velocity Mortgages called us to advise that the application had been successful and the Loan Offer was being sent. When we had the Offer in our hands we wept tears of relief and joy as there were only 12 days left to settle.

We will never forget Velocity Mortgages as long as we live for saving us from the embarrassing prospect of being made homeless and for returning us to a life of normality.

We have much to thank Velocity for. Both of us are self employed and had suffered from a decline in both income and cash flow leading us to late payments and an outstanding £8000.00 default. Our business was fine. An opportunity to sell up and buy an old period house at a bargain price was undermined by the fact that we could not get a mortgage even though the loan to value was 26%
